Because of these wonderful people, the celebrations here are French’s Point Estate is the stuff of which dreams are made!

I met Paula Cano from A Family Affair of Maine in 2008. We had the opportunity to collaborate on a wedding when she was working as a wedding planner for Black Tie Catering Co. My husband and I were also planning our wedding at the time. In consideration for our own wedding, we enjoyed a tasting with Paula and Black Tie Catering Co.’s chef. I knew from the moment I first spoke with Paula that there was a very special quality about her. Her beautiful smile, gorgeous green eyes, and her calm, quiet demeanor put me at ease instantly. I instinctively knew I was in good hands with her… that she would take care of my hopes and dreams and every special detail would be considered.

Now Paula is the owner of a growing, thriving business and she has the best interest of each of her clients at heart. She shares their visions and brings it to life! She does it with such heart and with such grace, it makes me so proud to know and love this lady. Please allow me to introduce my sweet friend, Paula Cano.

How long have you been operating your business?

A Family Affair was established in the fall of 2010, but I have been planning weddings and events in the industry since 2001.

How would you describe your services (i.e. day of coordinator, full-service event planning, logistics management, event design, etc)?

We offer a range of services from:

  • wedding and event design consultation
  • styling by the hour
  • full comprehensive planning services
  • rental of creative props

We offer clients a custom experience through prop creation (hand-sewn table linens, napkins, drapes and pillow covers, ceremony arbors, custom backdrops, hand-lettered signage, etc.) and sourcing of rentals specific to their event.

How would you describe your ideal client?

We work with all types of families and couples planning celebrations from milestone birthdays to 50th-anniversary parties and everything in between. Our clients have a desire to create a memorable experience through implementing beautiful and thoughtful details and creating a feeling of warmth, awareness and surprise. I strive to encourage our clients to share their stories with their guests in a way that they have spent so much time sharing with me throughout the planning process.

What is your favorite moment on the wedding day?

The ceremony is by far my favorite, followed by the parent dances as a close second! I am so grateful to witness this moment after months of knowing my couples and truly appreciate it when they take it to the next level by pushing the limits of time, tradition and inclusion. Parent dances get me crying every time now that I have children of my own. I think about all of the pride, joy and sadness that comes with those precious moments of time and it gets me every time.

What’s your favorite day trip in Maine?

We travel all over the state for weddings and rental deliveries so we’ve been blessed to experience so much beauty during our travels. One of our favorite Maine stays in the Camden/Rockport area because of the gorgeous blend of mountains and sea, beautiful historic homes and tremendously creative food scene, but we also love the incredible beauty of Maine lakes and small towns surrounding Lovell, Bridgton, Casco and Sebago. I can’t imagine living anywhere else-Maine has so much beauty to offer and I feel so lucky to live here.
