What Do I Do About Food Between Events?

French's Point - Wedding Weekend Planning - Weekend Catering

When planning a destination wedding, and your guests are all staying on site, there’s always the question; What do I do about food in between events? Do I have to provide every meal- breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Or can I just provide the meals for events?

Here are a few options that will help your guests understand what is provided, what is not provided, and how to provide meals for the whole duration of your stay:

Create a Weekend Itinerary

Talk with your stationer about creating a weekend itinerary that you can send along to all your weekend guests. You can inform them of the meal times and your event times so there are no questions! Send the itinerary in your invitations or post them on your wedding website. When you arrive at French’s Point, post your itinerary in our Welcome Center in each home so your guests can reference it at Check In and during their stay!

Post the Expectations on Your Wedding Website

Make it clear to guests the meals that you are providing during their stay and inform them of the food that will be available for them in the nearest residential kitchen.

Streamline Your Weekend Caterer

Throughout your stay, hire the same caterer to create meals, formal and informal, and even drop-off meals to you and your guests! Many caterers will not only design your wedding day meal, but drop off breakfast, brunch, lunch, and late night treats to your guests throughout your stay! Working with one provider streamlines the communication and helps ensure you aren’t missing any key mealtimes!

Don’t Forget to Provide Coffee in the Morning

You can order coffee from your breakfast caterer, or leave supplies and coffee grounds at each coffee maker for the guests to enjoy for themselves!

Hire a Personal Chef

Some catering companies offer a personal chef to cook meals for you and your guests within the home you are staying in! They will become a member of the family in no-time as they prepare all your favorite eats right in the heart of the home- the kitchen!

Hire Brunch Service

If you have multiple meal providers during your weekend stay, contact Eileen of Creative Catering or JoJo of Bell the Cat to drop off breakfast for your guests, they have everything from brunch/lunch platters to warm, home-cooked breakfasts. They will drop off at both homes, and pick up the platters as soon as you’re done!

Or a Food Truck!

If a donut truck is more your style, contact Eight 8 Donut Cafe about coming and parking in front of the Retreat House any morning during your stay! They provide fun-filled and uniquely decorated donuts, warm out of the fryer, and locally roasted coffee! It’s all you can eat so invite all your guests staying down Hersey Retreat Road to join you for your early morning treat! The Salt Box Café  is another great breakfast, brunch or lunch option. They provide creative breakfast and lunch sandwiches of your choosing and cook it fresh off the truck!

Real Review: The Venue Is Out Of A Dream

French's Point - Coastal Maine Destination Wedding Venue - Review - patrick_mcnamara_photo

Julianna & Cody

October 6th, 2018

There will never be enough words to describe how happy and satisfied we were with French’s Point (and Jessika & Nicole)! We found French’s Point in a magazine and just knew we had to set up a tour. From the second we walked into the venue we fell in love with it and couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else. Jessika and Nicole were incredible to work with, they always made time to answer our questions, give us suggestions, and help turn our dream wedding into a reality. Nicole was our wedding coordinator and we cherished and valued the relationship – Nicole was attentive, polite, professional, accommodating, timely, and understanding.

We had both our rehearsal dinner and wedding at French’s Point. The venue is out of a dream – an exquisite estate right on the water. Our guests stayed at Beach Rose Farm House for the weekend, which was equally as beautiful. Our extended family members stayed at other houses located on or near the property, which was very convenient as everything was in walking distance once our guests arrived.

Our wedding day is one we want to relive over and over again, in large part because of the location. We are so happy we chose French’s Point – beautiful, timeless and classy. It is unlike any other wedding venue. Every guest was blown away by the sheer and unique beauty and we continue to receive compliments daily!

The Retreat House Suite 4: The Brewer Family Suite

French's Point - Suite 4 - Retreat House - Family Vacation Home Rental - Destination Wedding Venue in Maine - Greta Tucker Photography

The second level of the Retreat House now offers four newly renovated suites with en suite bathrooms and six total bedrooms on this floor. Suite 4- The Brewer Family Suite, offers a two-bedroom configuration with a queen in each room with an adjoining bath. Our family LOVES this space and we hope other families do too. When I had my first and second babies, we lived in these suites for a time. I love thinking back to those times rocking my sweet little ones with the moon shining in the window.

We will share the details of the other Retreat House enhancements in upcoming posts. We hope you love them as much as we do.

What To Wear To A Wedding

Wedding Guest Attire: What to Wear to a Wedding - Wedding Dress Attire Formality _ Greta Tucker Photography

Informing your guests of the level of formality of your wedding day may feel like a daunting task. Our friends at The Black Tux have created a way to make this process a little bit simpler. Once you have chosen your wedding gown, your venue, the vision of the decor, your rentals, and your menu and meal service style,  it is important to educate your guests on what to wear to this celebratory event.  Your guests will thank you for making this clear.

The Use of Pinterest

One way to educate them is through Pinterest. We created an example board called, “Be Our Guest” that helps you envision what we have seen at French’s Point. You can use our board, or create your own to help you guests follow your overall dress formality for your big day. The most popular dress codes we have seen at French’s Point are a mix between Beach Formal and Black Tie Optional where guests are wearing a mixture of florals and heels and summer suits and ties.

Informing Your Guests on Your Wedding Website

Without your guests seeing the decor and all the fine details coming together, the design of the invitation might not be enough to inform them of what to wear. Another way we suggest educating your friends and family about what you wear is on your wedding website or app. You may not have room on your invitation to say more than a couple words about the dress code, but on your website, you can share the definition from The Black Tux or share links to places such as a Pinterest board or blog post.

Don’t Forget to Dress in Layers!

And don’t forget! We always suggest informing your guests that they prepare to dress in layers to accommodate rising and falling temperatures over the course of the day. No matter if you are having a winter, fall, summer or spring celebration, we always want you and your guests to be comfortable for whatever weather that blows our way!

The Retreat House Suite 2: The May Harris Suite

French's Point - Suite 2 - Retreat House - Family Vacation Home Rental - Destination Wedding Venue - Greta Tucker Photography

As we do almost every winter, the season was spent completing a number of major maintenance and repair projects to keep our beautiful buildings and grounds in top working order. We also completed a major renovation to the bedroom suites on the second and third floors of the Retreat House. I will share with you the details of the newly refurbished Top Level Apartment in the Retreat House and Suite 1, located on the second floor, in future posts.

The second level of the Retreat House now offers four newly renovated suites with en suite bathrooms and six total bedrooms on this floor. All of the rooms on the top, second level and main floor of the Retreat House have been dedicated to family members and dear friends that played a key role in our stewardship of this property. Suite 2- The Maybel Harris Brooks Suite (my personal favorite on the second level) has a king bedroom with a gorgeous en suite bathroom with new fixtures, a claw-foot soaking tub, and new tiled shower glass enclosure. And private partially covered balcony with cafe tables and chairs, swinging beds and hammock chairs.  The views from this suite are breathtaking. The blue and gray touches in the bedroom bring the water view inside and make this room very soothing.

One of the reasons that I love this room so much is because I have some wonderful memories sitting with my dear grandmother Maybel Harris Brooks the day after my wedding. I remember her soft white hair gleaming in the sunshine that day and her stunning smile. She was a very special lady to me. She was my Matron of Honor and this lovely lady (from whom I get my spunk and determination) is a big part of why we became the stewards of French’s Point.

We will share the details of the other Retreat House Suites  & enhancements in upcoming posts. We hope you love them as much as we do.

The Beginning Of Our Season

Map of French's Point Coastal Maine Wedding Venue and Vacation Home Rental: Newly Renovated, Refurnished, and Updated

This week, we kick off our 2018 season after a winter of renovations at the Retreat House. I am beyond excited to share with our couple, their family and friends the fruits of our labor. We are pushing hard to make everything perfect for their arrival, in spite of the LONG winter and the snow that still lingers on the west side of the estate. Perhaps today it will settle into the earth and make way for the forget-me-nots!

An army of family and friends made these dreams come true. We are so proud of the artists and craftsmen that joined our family team. We partnered with other family businesses that are helping us provide comfort to our guests and care to our homes, so you can feel at home here. I will share some details about them in upcoming posts. I can’t wait to tell you all about them!

“It’s Not Easy Being Green” – The Retreat at French’s Point

The Green Retreat Building of French's Point on the Coast of Maine for Weddings and Vacation Rental

In the spirit of Saint Patrick’s Day and all things green, we share sentiments from our favorite frog about our big, old, beautiful Retreat building

Cuppa Photography - Green Retreat Building at French's Point - Weddings and Vacation Rentals in Maine

It’s not that easy being green;
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold-
or something much more colorful like that.

It’s not easy being green.
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things.
And people tend to pass you over ’cause you’re not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water-
or stars in the sky.

But green’s the color of Spring.
And green can be cool and friendly-like.
And green can be big like the ocean, or important like a mountain, or tall like a tree.

It’s not that easy being green;
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold-
or something much more colorful like that.

It’s not easy being green.
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things.
And people tend to pass you over ’cause you’re not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
or stars in the sky.

But green’s the color of Spring.
And green can be cool and friendly-like.
And green can be big like the ocean, or important like a mountain, or tall like a tree.
