Sample Winter Wedding Weekend Itinerary

At French’s Point, no matter the season, each wedding hosted here is a reflection of our couples and their vision for the experience they wish to share with their family and friends. We LOVE these weddings! But we love nothing more than a winter weekend wedding at French’s Point. It brings back memories of my own winter wedding 10 years ago. Winter weddings possess a magic and beauty all their own, simply not found in any other season. Perhaps I am biased. I do think that French’s Point was made for weddings, particularly this time of year. If you are considering a winter wedding, I thought I would share a sample winter wedding weekend itinerary with you for inspiration. Put your own touches on this and make the weekend your own!

“Winter weddings possess a magic and beauty all their own, simply not found in any other season.” – Jessika, Owner of French’s Point

The Sound System at French’s Point

Sound System at French's Point - Estate Destination Wedding Venue - Lindsey Ocker Photography

The Sound System at French’s Point is offered to our guests during their planned events. The Sound System is a property operated piece of equipment.  Guests have access to the sound system from 9am-10pm with the site managers permission. Sound System will be locked at 10:00PM or at the end of your event before the site manager’s departure.

Microphone

Our Sound System broadcasts sound on the Main Level of the Retreat House and outside on the Cocktail Terrace. If you have a speech planned during your event, you are welcome to speak with a French’s Point site manager about using a microphone. Please plan to use the microphone only inside the home, as the microphone will lose it’s line-of-sight connection once it leaves the Main Level of the Retreat House.

Piano

If you plan to have a Pianist, please let us know ahead of time so we can set up the microphone to the piano to broadcast outside on the Cocktail Terrace.

Music

In order to play your music selections, you will need a Phone or iPad with an Aux Port or Aux Port Converter. You are also welcome to play CDs.

For any other Sound System questions, please email Nicole at [email protected].

FAQ: How is the Lodging Block Fee Paid?

French's Point Lodging - Farm House - Retreat House - Seaside Estate Vacation Home in Maine - Greta Tucker Photography

Typically, your guests cover the expense for their lodging in the guest suites. As the host, you assign your guests to the suites. By reserving French’s Point, you are guaranteeing the lodging block payment just as you would a room block at a hotel. You have two options as to how payments are made for lodging:

Option A

You assign your guests to the suites and collect the lodging rates and applicable Maine State Lodging Tax from your guests using the Venmo app or collecting check payments and then pay the balance due on lodging and lodging tax to French’s Point 100 days prior to check in.

Option B

You assign your guests to the suites and provide the names of the guests you wish to stay at French’s Point and the room assignments to our office. For a $1,500 Administrative Fee, we will collect lodging payments from your guests directly and apply the payments to the balance due on lodging and lodging tax. With this option, the balance due on lodging and lodging tax to French’s Point is due 160 days prior to check in. Credit Card payments are subject to a convenience fee.

How Many Chairs Do I Order For My Wedding Ceremony?

Brendan Bullock Photography - French's Point - Family Vacation Home Rental - Maine Wedding Venue

When you select a blank canvas wedding venue, like French’s Point, you will need to work alongside a rental provider to streamline all your wedding weekend rentals. One of the rental items you will need to place on your order form is your ceremony chairs.

Select Your Chair Style

First, you will need to select the kind of chair that best fits the aesthetic of your venue and style of your wedding. We have found that 90% of our couples rent the White Resin Folding Garden Chairs from Wallace Events.

Choose Your Ceremony Location

Second, you will need to know which location you wish to get married at. French’s Point offers 8 different ceremony settings for you to tie the knot! Choose from the below:

The Retreat Gazebo – Seating Capacity 200+
The Retreat Oceanfront Lawn – Seating Capacity 200+
The Retreat Cobblestone Terrace – Seating Capacity 200+
The Retreat Conservatory – Seating Capacity 180
The Farm Gazebo – Seating Capacity 40
The Farm East Terrace – Seating Capacity 80
The Farm Private Beach – Seating Capacity 200+

Add Extra Chairs

Once you have chosen your ideal ceremony setting for your celebration, and chosen the chairs that best fit your space, you will want to consider the number of guests attending your celebration. If you are estimating 100 guests, you will want to reserve around 20 extra chairs on your rental order. This way you have those chairs reserved to your name in case your guest count skyrockets. You don’t want anyone to be chair-less!

Count Your RSVPs

As the wedding day draws near, and you have all your RSVPs returned to you, you will want to round up an extra 10 chairs and round to the nearest even number. When your planner sets up your ceremony chairs, you will want both sides of the isle to have an even number of chairs. We also tell you to round up, because believe it or not, your guests never want to fill in every seat in the row! Some families have an uneven number attending.

A Helpful Tip:

To better fill every seat, we recommend assigning an usher to direct guests to the nearest open seat available when they arrive at the ceremony location.

Don’t Forget Your Ceremony Participants!

Now, if you have an officiant, singer, speaker, musician, or any special ceremonial tradition in your service, you will want to ask those who are participating if they will want a chair to sit in. Maybe you will need to sit during the reading or song, then you will want to add two or more chairs to your order, depending on the response from your ceremony personnel.

If You Chose the Gazebo at French’s Point

Lastly, if you have chosen to get married at the Gazebo at French’s Point, you not only want an even number of chairs, but you will want to keep in mind that the promenade on the right-hand side of the Gazebo can only fit 6 chairs across, and the promenade on the left-hand side of the Gazebo can fit anywhere from 6 to 10 comfortably. If you have a small guest count, we recommend 6 across on each side, if you have more than 120 guests attending, we recommend 8-10 chairs on the left-hand side of the promenade, and 6 on the right-hand side to move guests closer to the Gazebo for visual and sound reasons.

Wi-Fi At French’s Point

Wi-fi at French's Point - Coastal Maine Wedding Venue & Vacation Home - Still 55 Photography

For your convenience, there is guest Wi-Fi at French’s Point that extends throughout all four levels of the Retreat House and all three Levels of the Farm House. The Wi-Fi extends outside on the Retreat House Cocktail Terrace and halfway to the Gazebo and is spotty down towards the Tent. Wi-Fi does not extend down to the beaches or Recreation Lawn. Please do not rely on Wi-Fi for your reception music or sound in the tent or ceremony at the Gazebo or Oceanfront Lawn. We suggest you request a system from Wallace Events, your band, or DJ.

Real Review: The Venue Is Out Of A Dream

French's Point - Coastal Maine Destination Wedding Venue - Review - patrick_mcnamara_photo

Julianna & Cody

October 6th, 2018

There will never be enough words to describe how happy and satisfied we were with French’s Point (and Jessika & Nicole)! We found French’s Point in a magazine and just knew we had to set up a tour. From the second we walked into the venue we fell in love with it and couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else. Jessika and Nicole were incredible to work with, they always made time to answer our questions, give us suggestions, and help turn our dream wedding into a reality. Nicole was our wedding coordinator and we cherished and valued the relationship – Nicole was attentive, polite, professional, accommodating, timely, and understanding.

We had both our rehearsal dinner and wedding at French’s Point. The venue is out of a dream – an exquisite estate right on the water. Our guests stayed at Beach Rose Farm House for the weekend, which was equally as beautiful. Our extended family members stayed at other houses located on or near the property, which was very convenient as everything was in walking distance once our guests arrived.

Our wedding day is one we want to relive over and over again, in large part because of the location. We are so happy we chose French’s Point – beautiful, timeless and classy. It is unlike any other wedding venue. Every guest was blown away by the sheer and unique beauty and we continue to receive compliments daily!

Real Review: Heaven. Just Heaven.

French's Point Review - Destination Wedding Venue - Coastal Maine Wedding Venue - Amanda McCoy Photography

Jessica & Zachary

Married on October 13th, 2018

Our October wedding at French’s Point was simply amazing. Back in the planning stages, we had plans to tour six or seven other venues, but we canceled all our other tours after we toured French’s Point because we knew we’d just seen something special and that it wouldn’t get any better.

We were right. Everything about the estate is amazing–the location, the view, the estate house itself. It’s warm, welcoming, and elegant. The staff is sweet, encouraging, communicative, and helpful. They provided us with suggestions and inspiration that made our day unique and fun.

“Everything about the estate is amazing–the location, the view, the estate house itself. It’s warm, welcoming, and elegant.” – Jessica

If you book the venue, you should also consider booking the adjacent farmhouse for your family and wedding party. It’s a quaint, cozy, and adorable place to stay, but it’s also incredibly handy to have the wedding party within walking distance of the venue. We were so happy we made the choice to book the farmhouse too!

I can’t thank Jessika and Nicole enough; they were amazing, and I get misty just thinking about what a wonderful day they helped us create. I loved everything about it! We even battled a little rain and couldn’t get married outside at the gazebo like we planned, but it didn’t for one second feel like a compromise to get married in the lovely estate. This place is just heaven!

House Captains

French's Point House Captains - Coastal Maine Weddings - Vacation Rental Home - Photography by the Light and Color

French’s Point is a family-owned and operated vacation rental home. We kindly ask that you care for our home as you would your own during your stay, and return the home to us at check out as you found it upon check in. Because the estate has two homes and 14 acres, and to make the time here more comfortable and enjoyable for your group, we suggest that Hosts select a resident from each of the houses to be the “House Captain”. This House Captain will be a point person for guests with questions, will help relay information to help enjoyment of the property, and help ensure rental terms are followed. Here are a few points of information the House Captains should know in preparation for your stay:

  1. The House Captain is the primary point of contact for the guests within the house if they have questions about the weekend activities. They are a point of contact with the Hosts, the wedding planner, and French’s Point family. They assist guests in finding their rooms at check in and answering questions about the homes, relay the details of the weekend’s events, and assist in a smooth check out process. There is a binder located on the main level of each building with the welcome information and an area Resource Guide. There are floor plans in the Welcome Center of each home with room assignments as well.
  2. We ask that the House Captain arrives at check in with the hosts of the stay so we can address questions and help familiarize you with the home before the remainder of the guests arrive to the estate. Please confirm this time with your hosts.
  3. Please help keep guests mindful of the 10pm-9am Quiet Hours at the Retreat House and 9pm-9am Quiet Hours at the Farm House. During quiet hours, all guest activity and sound must be contained within the buildings by 10:00PM. All fire pit use and outdoor activities need to cease by this time.
  4. Guests can park their cars in front of the homes to unload, but vehicles should be moved to designated parking areas during your stay.
  5. During events where there is a bus on site that is providing shuttle service, we ask there be no cars parked in the front of the Farm House along the road. This area will be bus parking only.
  6. Please share with guests that if they leave their rooms or common areas vacant for a long period of time, all windows and exterior doors need to be shut. Maine weather can change quickly. We also ask guests to please turn off all lights and AC units when the room is not occupied to help conserve energy.
  7. During your stay, all trash from both the Farm House and the Retreat House needs to be taken to the dumpster. The dumpster gets emptied on Thursdays. We suggest doing a daily walk-through of the common areas of the building you are staying in to ensure it stays clear of clutter throughout the duration of your stay.
  8. French’s Point recycles redeemables (bottles & cans with a ME redemption label only). Please separate these items only from your trash. Inside the homes, containers are marked for collection of Redeemables in the kitchen and common areas. During your stay, please place all redeemable (Bottles & Cans with a ME redemption label ONLY) in the barrels to the right and left of the dumpster inside the enclosure. If you are the House Captain at the Farm House, these Bottles and Cans can be placed within the receptacles within the tree hollow along the road side. If these receptacles fill during your stay, please bring the load down to the dumpster enclosure. If bottles and cans do not have a ME redemption sticker, please place them in the dumpster.
  9. During your stay, cardboard can be disposed of in the designated receptacle near the dumpster enclosure. Please do not leave cardboard in any other area.
  10. At check out, please return all furnishings, games and equipment to their original locations, & remove all food & personal effects. Bed linens & towels will be removed by house keeping.
  11. At check out, all dishes need to be put away or in the dishwasher at departure.
  12. At check out, all keys and chalkboards need to be returned to the suite doors.
  13. At check out, all trash, cardboard & redeemables should be removed to the dumpster enclosure.

Please read through our Welcome Information and our Check Out document. Should you need assistance related to our facilities, please contact us during our office hours (9am-4pm) by calling 207-567-3650. In the case of emergency, please call the same number. Our office line is forwarded to a mangers phone after hours. We occupy an office located on the lower level of the Retreat House near the Catering Kitchen. For assistance during your stay, please ring the doorbell outside the kitchen, email us at [email protected], or give us a call.
