At French’s Point we have had the privilege of working with Dionne Entertainment for many years and always find excellent service with Dave and his son Joe Dionne. Our preferred vendor directory includes only the best vendors in Maine, ones that have proven to have good communication skills, knowledgeable and up to date in their field, and are a pleasure to work with.

Below is our interview with Dave, where he shares how he got started in the wedding business as well as insight into making your event personalized through music.

How long have you been in the wedding/entertainment field?

I’ve been a wedding DJ since 1976.

How long has Dionne Entertainment been around?

We’ve been around since 1976.

What got you interested in DJ services?

I worked as a radio disc jockey on WJBQ in Portland in 1975, then WABK in Augusta in 1976. During this time period, I got several offers to be the DJ at weddings (calls that came into the radio stations).

What is your favorite thing about being a wedding DJ and why?

Unlike being in a radio studio, far away and all alone, a wedding reception has a live audience that can provide instant feedback. Nothing beats real interaction with real people, live!! It’s a great feeling to help a couple create a successful wedding celebration.

What advice or helpful suggestions do you have for a bride who is searching for a DJ?

Make sure you have some references and testimonials. Ask your venue wedding coordinator or photographer if they’ve ever worked with the DJ. Ask the DJ if they bring back-up equipment and carry liability insurance. You can also ask if this is their full-time job or a hobby.

What is one way that a bride could add a personal touch to the entertainment?

By selecting her favorite songs that fit the group of people she’s inviting and excluding the songs she is sure her guests wouldn’t want to hear.

Could you provide us with popular first dance songs?

“All Of Me” by John Legend has been the most common first song this year.

Could you provide us with popular father/daughter and mother/son dances?

The most common Father/Daughter dance is usually “I Loved Her First” by Heartland. The most popular Mother/son dance has been “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts.
