Where do I begin to tell you how much I adore Josh Swan? Josh is the owner of Media Northeast, a Maine video production company helping clients create custom-made video products and specializing in spectacular French’s Point Estate weddings. I met Josh years ago and have had the opportunity to collaborate with him as a client (he has produced numerous video pieces for French’s Point Estate over the years) and I have also worked alongside him providing service to our mutual clients on many occasions. I have an immense amount of respect for Josh. He is a wonderful husband and father of two beautiful twin girls. He is loved by his peers in the Maine wedding community. I love working with people that are talented, hard working, and provide incredible products and services, but for me, it is equally important that they are good, kind, honest human beings that provide outstanding customer service. Josh is all of those things. Josh says:

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that customer service and the experience we offer at the Media Northeast family is the thing that truly sets us apart. We live for shooting video and take great pride in what we do and in the products we deliver to our clients. We give 110% in every aspect of our productions to deliver the very best film possible.”

Here’s what you need to know about Josh:

How long have you been operating your business?

I started shooting video back in 2006, working at a local television station and working as a freelance videographer before taking over Media Northeast in 2011, where we offer everything from commercials, to corporate training videos as well as creative wedding films. I am at this full time, doing what I love!

How would you describe your style?

As a creative studio, we would describe our style as producing handcrafted films with a focus on cinematic style imagery using a strong storytelling approach. We push ourselves as artists to deliver a product that is visually stunning and unique. We produce films that we feel good about and in line with the style that we enjoy shooting. This is really important for our team because it instills passion. At every wedding we are trying new techniques and basically trying to outdo ourselves in comparison to the last wedding. Progression is key.

What lead you to become a wedding videographer?

During my initial freelance work, I began working for the original owner of Media Northeast filming and editing weddings as my primary work for him. It was something I really enjoyed and was good at, so I ran with it and have been moving forward with evolving my style and approach to weddings ever since.

Do you use the new drone technology?

As I mentioned above, we are always trying to push our style to the next level. Once I started seeing aerial platforms being used, I immediately fell in love with the different perspective it offers. We built our first 6 propeller drone unit four years ago and have since upgraded to newer technology, which allows for longer flight times and safer flying. The dynamic shots that it allows our team to capture is pretty amazing, especially for beautiful estates such as French’s Point.

How many hours do you recommend for wedding day coverage?

The hours can vary from wedding to wedding, but having a wedding in one location where the couple is getting ready right on site, the ceremony is only a short walk away and the reception is right there as well, really allows us to maximize our time. 8 hours of coverage is pretty typical for us at French’s point, where as another wedding with travel can be 9-10 hours of coverage time, since the travel eats up so much time. This is a real plus for filming at French’s point, as it reduces the overall cost somewhat for cinematography.

What is your favorite day trip in Maine?

We enjoy doing family things at our camp, spending time on our boat fishing saltwater or freshwater, or taking random trips with my wife on our motorcycle. Maine is so diverse, which I really love. We can be in the mountains or on the coast in one hour in either direction enjoying completely different types of environments. I don’t really have one favorite day trip, as we enjoy so many different things the state has to offer.
