We at French’s Point Estate, here in Stockton Springs, Maine, are thrilled to kick off a new series of blog posts spotlighting amazing Maine wedding vendors that help to make weddings here at our waterfront wedding venue not only successful but truly the embodiment of the experience our clients strive to craft for their family and friends. This series will showcase some of the best providers from the vibrant, talented, dedicated wedding industry community we are so proud to be a part of here in Maine and New England. This group of professional wedding vendors understands and adheres to our guiding principles for the service we endeavor to provide our clients:

  • Be Responsive
  • Be Kind

  • Provide the Very Best Product/Service

Because of these wonderful people, the celebrations here at French’s Point Estate are the stuff of which dreams are made!

We would love to introduce our first preferred wedding vendor, Judy Bourgeois of Flora Fauna Floral + Event Design. Judy specializes in floral and event design with unique vintage rentals, custom linens, furniture, props and other design elements. She is a prized industry friend that has been by our side since French’s Point had the opportunity to collaborate with her on an event produced for Grace Ormonde Magazine years ago. Judy and I both ventured into the wedding industry about the same time, and we immediately hit it off. We bonded over the love and care we both put into our clients… we invest in them and their happiness. You can see that level of attention to detail and absolute perfection in Judy’s designs. I trusted her with my own 2008 winter wedding with only six weeks to plan, and she brought my dreams to life and exceeded them in every way. We can always recommend Flora Fauna with confidence to any French’s Point couple. Here’s what you need to know about Judy…

How long have you been operating your business?
I have been in business since 2004. I began selling my home-grown flowers at a local flower market on Saturday mornings as a way to supplement our family income while I was raising my 2 small, baby boys. One Saturday, a person asked if I did weddings, and I said yes. Well, the rest is history and it snowballed into a full floral design business.

How would you describe your style?
My style is eclectic, colorful and lush. I embrace the material in an organic way and work with my flowers to create full, fluffy and textural designs. I love color and love mixing colors that are unexpected together to create unique designs. And yes white and blush are colors! I have a keen eye for bringing an event together to create a cohesive design. My biggest compliment from my clients is when they say things like…”you truly understood me”, “you got what was in my head and brought it to life”, “it’s exactly what I had hoped for”, or simply “WOW!”

How would you describe the range of your services? i.e. florist, event design, etc
First and foremost, I am a florist. I am also a designer. I love to collaborate with clients and other vendors involved in the event to help bring the overall event design together to create a cohesive event that truly flows and looks seamless. I really take my clients’ lead as to what they need and want. Some events I simply provide the flowers. Some events, I work with other vendors to collaborate on the overall design. And other events, I do the design, soup to nuts.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by so many things around me but Mother Nature is really the most magical of them all. The beauty of the natural world around us gives us so much to play with. I did a wedding once on the coast of Maine in the fall and the colors of the blue sky, brown of the grass and sand played a big role in the overall colors and flowers we chose.

As a client, how many months in advance should I meet with you to discuss my vision?
I have booked clients 2 years before their wedding and also booked clients 6 weeks before their wedding. So really, I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer from my perspective. I will say that I am a small floral design studio. I only book up to 2 events per weekend and prefer to book only 1. So, the early bird definitely gets the worm with me.

What information do you need to know to provide service for your event?
I don’t need a Pinterest board of everything you want in your wedding. That is very limiting to me as a designer. I would rather get to know you as a person and hear the things you like, the overall feel you want to evoke for the day and what makes your heart sing. I like to know who you are as a person, your style, things you like even if it’s a designer you wear or a place you shop.

What do you love most about Maine weddings?
I love that all my clients that get married in Maine have a connection to a person, a place… a memory that makes them so happy that they want to get marry the person they love in front of the people they love and create a new memory of their favorite place on earth. Maine is so special in so many ways and I love that couples choose to start their lives together here. We have so many hidden gems to discover here in Maine and I am so glad so many people come to discover them.
