Sample Winter Wedding Weekend Itinerary

At French’s Point, no matter the season, each wedding hosted here is a reflection of our couples and their vision for the experience they wish to share with their family and friends. We LOVE these weddings! But we love nothing more than a winter weekend wedding at French’s Point. It brings back memories of my own winter wedding 10 years ago. Winter weddings possess a magic and beauty all their own, simply not found in any other season. Perhaps I am biased. I do think that French’s Point was made for weddings, particularly this time of year. If you are considering a winter wedding, I thought I would share a sample winter wedding weekend itinerary with you for inspiration. Put your own touches on this and make the weekend your own!

“Winter weddings possess a magic and beauty all their own, simply not found in any other season.” – Jessika, Owner of French’s Point

What Do I Do About Food Between Events?

French's Point - Wedding Weekend Planning - Weekend Catering

When planning a destination wedding, and your guests are all staying on site, there’s always the question; What do I do about food in between events? Do I have to provide every meal- breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Or can I just provide the meals for events?

Here are a few options that will help your guests understand what is provided, what is not provided, and how to provide meals for the whole duration of your stay:

Create a Weekend Itinerary

Talk with your stationer about creating a weekend itinerary that you can send along to all your weekend guests. You can inform them of the meal times and your event times so there are no questions! Send the itinerary in your invitations or post them on your wedding website. When you arrive at French’s Point, post your itinerary in our Welcome Center in each home so your guests can reference it at Check In and during their stay!

Post the Expectations on Your Wedding Website

Make it clear to guests the meals that you are providing during their stay and inform them of the food that will be available for them in the nearest residential kitchen.

Streamline Your Weekend Caterer

Throughout your stay, hire the same caterer to create meals, formal and informal, and even drop-off meals to you and your guests! Many caterers will not only design your wedding day meal, but drop off breakfast, brunch, lunch, and late night treats to your guests throughout your stay! Working with one provider streamlines the communication and helps ensure you aren’t missing any key mealtimes!

Don’t Forget to Provide Coffee in the Morning

You can order coffee from your breakfast caterer, or leave supplies and coffee grounds at each coffee maker for the guests to enjoy for themselves!

Hire a Personal Chef

Some catering companies offer a personal chef to cook meals for you and your guests within the home you are staying in! They will become a member of the family in no-time as they prepare all your favorite eats right in the heart of the home- the kitchen!

Hire Brunch Service

If you have multiple meal providers during your weekend stay, contact Eileen of Creative Catering or JoJo of Bell the Cat to drop off breakfast for your guests, they have everything from brunch/lunch platters to warm, home-cooked breakfasts. They will drop off at both homes, and pick up the platters as soon as you’re done!

Or a Food Truck!

If a donut truck is more your style, contact Eight 8 Donut Cafe about coming and parking in front of the Retreat House any morning during your stay! They provide fun-filled and uniquely decorated donuts, warm out of the fryer, and locally roasted coffee! It’s all you can eat so invite all your guests staying down Hersey Retreat Road to join you for your early morning treat! The Salt Box Café  is another great breakfast, brunch or lunch option. They provide creative breakfast and lunch sandwiches of your choosing and cook it fresh off the truck!

The Sound System at French’s Point

Sound System at French's Point - Estate Destination Wedding Venue - Lindsey Ocker Photography

The Sound System at French’s Point is offered to our guests during their planned events. The Sound System is a property operated piece of equipment.  Guests have access to the sound system from 9am-10pm with the site managers permission. Sound System will be locked at 10:00PM or at the end of your event before the site manager’s departure.

Microphone

Our Sound System broadcasts sound on the Main Level of the Retreat House and outside on the Cocktail Terrace. If you have a speech planned during your event, you are welcome to speak with a French’s Point site manager about using a microphone. Please plan to use the microphone only inside the home, as the microphone will lose it’s line-of-sight connection once it leaves the Main Level of the Retreat House.

Piano

If you plan to have a Pianist, please let us know ahead of time so we can set up the microphone to the piano to broadcast outside on the Cocktail Terrace.

Music

In order to play your music selections, you will need a Phone or iPad with an Aux Port or Aux Port Converter. You are also welcome to play CDs.

For any other Sound System questions, please email Nicole at [email protected].

Vendor Spotlight: Posh + Walker

Maine Wedding Welcome Bag - Posh + Walker - Personalized Gift Bags - A Fogarty Photography

Are you the type of person who always wants to give a thoughtful personal gift but you don’t have time to find it, buy it, and send it?

Posh + Walker has curated gift boxes for every occasion that are wrapped in style and ready for delivery. Take the hassle out of gift giving and make it personal again. They hand wrap each gift and sign every card with a personal note inspired by you.

How long have you been operating your business?

Posh + Walker officially launched in June of 2017.

What inspired your passion for gift design?

We (Amanda & Christina) met in the wedding industry and discovered our shared love of thoughtful gifting during the planning of a styled shoot. We both were already creating custom gift boxes for our engaged couples and had a passion for gifting in our personal lives as well. We realized that although other people want to give more thoughtfully they don’t always have time to put together the perfect gift – not to mention the dreaded run to the post office! The idea of Posh + Walker was born out of the desire to help others gift more thoughtfully without the hassle!

How would you describe your products and services?

Posh + Walker offers a variety of curated gift boxes in our online shop, but what we are most passionate about is custom gifting. We create custom gifts for weddings, corporate events, client branded gifts, and so much more. Together, we work with our clients to create a gift that truly represents who they are as a couple or brand. Our goal is to always make our client’s recipient feel loved and appreciated.

We most recently have launched a Thoughtful Gifting Workshop Series where we team up with local vendors to provide a unique experience to our community. We have hosted sold out floral arranging workshops, wellness themed workshops, and have a few holiday centered workshops on the schedule for the upcoming months.

What products do you typically provide to wedding clients?

We work closely with our wedding clients to create custom gifts such as welcome bags, “will you be my bridesmaid/groomsmen” gifts, bachelorette goodies, and more! The options are endless on creating something that is unique and personal for the couples.

We also have an online shop where we sell pre-made gifts that our wedding clients enjoy like our Welcome to Maine Box, His & Her Bathroom Kits, Bridal Emergency Box, and more.

Please provide us with a sample of a few gift options with prices for Maine weddings.

Do you do any sort of personalization to your products or gift boxes?

Yes! The options are endless with our custom gifting. We have done everything from personalized tote bags to cookies from a local bakery!

How early in advance should our clients book your services?

If clients are looking to create custom gifts with Posh + Walker we recommend reaching out at least 3-5 months prior to their wedding day.

A Little Help From Our (New) Friends

French's Point - A Little Help From Our New Friends - Russian Exchange Students

In 2017, we began hosting J1 Visa Work/Travel Exchange Students from Russia. We hosted four sweet, hard-working, dedicated girls. They joined our tiny family team that cares for the grounds and homes here at French’s Point. We had an incredible experience so in 2018, we welcomed 6 young ladies from two different Russian universities for the summer at French’s Point. It provides our family the opportunity to host these brilliant young girls, help them refine their grasp of the English language, experience the culture here on the Maine coast, make friends and see a magical part of the world. We also get to know their lovely souls, understand their world and expose our kiddos to another culture. Without this ladies, our family would not be able to be effective stewards of French’s Point. There just are not enough hours in the day for our family to do all the work that must be done for us to offer these homes to our guests. We are grateful beyond words for the opportunity to be apart of their lives and for their help and care for our family legacy. If you see that girls at French’s Point this summer, please say hello and “Spasiba”!

Guest Room Air Conditioning: Domestic Air Conditioning

French's Point: Domestic Air Conditioning in the Retreat House and Farm House - Destination Wedding Venue on the Coast of Maine - Emily Delameter Photography

Guests often ask if we have or need air conditioning at French’s Point. The reality is that the architect Wilfred E. Mansur, who designed the retreat house, did so to take advantage of the near perpetual breezes here. The transom windows over the bedroom doors on the second floor are testament of that. In fact, in some of the rooms at the Retreat House, door hooks are offered near the baseboard to keep open doors from slamming closed in the breeze. The Farm House and the Retreat House are both cited at the highest elevations on the point and if you open a door or window for cross ventilation, the rooms remain quite comfortable most of the time. The exception is the few days in July or August when the air is still and the humidity coupled with higher temperatures does not afford a breeze.

Regardless of the reality, we wanted to be able to assure our guests that their accommodations are comfortable year round. This spring, we partnered with Mike from Domestic Air Conditioning and Refrigeration to bring air conditioning to our guest rooms in both homes. He finished the installation of the system we roughed in in 2005. The Retreat House bed rooms have central air conditioning with the exception of one room in suite 1, which has a window unit. The Farm House bedrooms all have window units with the exception of suite 12 on the lower level that does not need air conditioning, because it always stays comfortable. We are glad to have this amenity to offer to our guests. We know that now they will slumber comfortably, even on the warmest, stillest of summer nights.

Tour French’s Point

Tour French's Point - Family Vacation Home Rental Property - Coastal Maine Destination Wedding Venue- Greta Tucker Photography

Are you ready to visit French’s Point to see if it is a good fit for your gathering? To ensure privacy for our guests and families while they vacation here at French’s Point, we close the estate to tours when it is occupied. You will enjoy this same privacy during your stay with us. The best times to schedule a visit are typically Sunday after 1pm through Wednesday during our business hours (9am-4pm daily). There are some exceptions to this because our guests can extend their reservations by a night or two. This is most common over the long weekends. Sunday afternoon tour times fill quickly due to the limited weekend availability. The estate is closed to tours for national holidays of Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day when we are typically enjoying our own family time together at French’s Point.

If you are planning a trip to visit French’s Point, please contact us in advance to confirm our availability and schedule a tour. We would love to pencil your appointment in and show you what makes French’s Point so special to the families that choose to celebrate here.

Featured Textile Partner: Molly Hutchins of On Board Fabrics

French's Point Textile Parter Feature: Molly Hutchins of On Board Fabrics - Maine Vacation Home Rental Property

There is nothing more important to me than family. But right after family, comes the priority of partnering with and supporting small, family-owned businesses in Maine that help us ensure our guests enjoy the best of what the state has to offer. When we renovated the Retreat House this past winter, we teamed up with some of my favorite Maine makers. I wanted to share these special people with you, because without them, the Retreat House project would not have been successful.

Did you know that both homes at French’s Point offer custom bed linens & textiles, proudly made in Maine?

In 2014, when we updated bedroom suites located inside the Farm House, we partnered with our friend Molly Hutchins of On Board Fabrics to make the perfect duvet covers, pillow shams and decorative pillow shams for our beds. There are 14 beds in the Farm House, so this was a fairly sizable undertaking, even in the off season. I got to know Molly thought that process and I can tell you with complete honesty, she is a pro. She can troubleshoot, problem solve and calculate so fast, that my poor little layman’s mind simply can’t keep up. We loved the bedding so much that when it came time to update the rooms in the Retreat House, I went straight to Molly (in the off season of course).

Molly made two sets of pillow shams for the eight guest rooms. She made decorative pillows too. Molly made the beautiful velvet curtains in the top floor apartment, and suites 1, 2, and 3. We are talking hundreds of yards of velvet here, which I learned can be hard to work with. Molly also covered all the cushions for the built-in benches and church pews on the main and lower levels of the Retreat House. She also made gray cushions for the new lounge furniture my father made on the upper level of the Retreat House terrace and the East Overlook Terrace at the Farm House. Now guests can find a comfortable seat to take in the views inside AND outside! With her help, we chose very neutral and soothing fabrics that tied beautifully with the architectural elements of the homes. And they are gorgeous, and the craftsmanship is unparalleled.

Molly, her husband Glan, and their employee Melissa all tackled this big project with dedication and zeal that I am quite confident can only be found here on the coast of Maine. You can visit On Board Fabrics website, or follow Molly on Facebook. She’s a hoot! On Board Fabrics barn is located on Route 27 leading to Boothbay, at 660 Boothbay Rd. Edgecomb, Maine. Tell Molly that Jesse sent you!

The Retreat House Suite 4: The Brewer Family Suite

French's Point - Suite 4 - Retreat House - Family Vacation Home Rental - Destination Wedding Venue in Maine - Greta Tucker Photography

The second level of the Retreat House now offers four newly renovated suites with en suite bathrooms and six total bedrooms on this floor. Suite 4- The Brewer Family Suite, offers a two-bedroom configuration with a queen in each room with an adjoining bath. Our family LOVES this space and we hope other families do too. When I had my first and second babies, we lived in these suites for a time. I love thinking back to those times rocking my sweet little ones with the moon shining in the window.

We will share the details of the other Retreat House enhancements in upcoming posts. We hope you love them as much as we do.
